From Inquiry 120-138 3/15

In the reading, From finding to Evaluating Sources, we are taught and shown ways we can look at the sources from the internet or in the library. There are a few things that you can do before you search the internet or your campus library such as, "Librarians at your campus or Local Library" (121). When you are searching sources, you want to see the difference between "Popular and Scholar Sources" (125). They give you steps that are given as a guide and those steps are: "1. Consult experts who can guide your research. 2. Develop a working knowledge of standard sources. 3. Distinguish between primary and secondary sources. 4. Distinguish between popular ans scholarly sources" (127). One person that you can talk too is your professor or librarian. When you are searching, you want to make sure you are using the correct keyword search which is essential to your research. It helps you define and narrow down your research topic. There are also steps that you can follow while researching on the internet, such as, "1. Evaluate the author of the site. 2. Evaluate the organization that supports the site. 3. Evaluate the purpose of the site. 4. Evaluate the information on the site" (138). You do not want to do all this research and believe that you have a reliable when in fact you do not have one at all. That is a waste of time and you would have too start all over. By being careful in the beginning it ensures you more that you did your research correct.
