Online research will be part of our semester long paper on a sustainable idea, so this reading is perfect to help us see the pros and cons of the online research. When you are researching a certain topic, there are many websites that provide incorrect information which will fire back at you in the long run. Three questions that you want to keep in mind are "Do your findings supplement any facts or details about people, places, histories, ideas or artifacts you've already heard about? What evidence do you have the the information is reliable? Is it up- to- date? Who authored the text on the Web site? How is the Web site connected to other sources?" (39). These three questions are extremely important because you want to be able to find reliable and credible sources that have something to do with your topic. There are also guidelines that you want to follow which are, "Research well., Mark your Trail., Evaluate your resource., Document everything you use." (40) These simple yet effective guidelines will make sure you aren't using false information or loose anything. Plagiarism is also something that you want to look out for. You cannot copy a sentence with out giving the source you took it from credit. It is so easy to copy and paste words or sentences, but it is also so easy to find where you took the information from by looking online. You also want to look for "Published and unpublished Written sources" (140) because you may find more information that is suited for your topic than online information.
